Logos and Liveries
Airline logos are cruical for identifying models. Therefore, we have strict guidelines for how we organize and manage liveries.
I. General
- Each livery record represents a notable change to an airline's livery, such as:
- Major brand changes
- Subtle changes when there are a significant number of models of each variation
- One-off (or uncommon) liveries are not listed as a livery, but instead the model's special livery field is used
II. Logos
- Each livery should have a corresponding logo image
- Important Note: We are tracking livery changes, not logo changes.
- There may instances when an airline changes their logo used for marketing but the livery stays the same. This would be one livery record.
- There may be instances when an airline keeps the same logo but the livery changes. This would be two livery records. If possible, the logos should have some visual difference (e.g. different colors, etc) to distinguish them.
- Images used for logos should adhere to the following:
- No white backgrounds (i.e. background should be transparent)
- A colored background can be used if it more accuretly represents the livery (or is necessary for differentiation)
- No slogans should be included (or any text other than the airline's name)
- For non-English airlines, both the English and native language versions of the name may be displayed
- Trimmed/cropped to have no border pixels (unless colored background is used, then a small padding area is preferable)
- Be at least 150 pixels wide, although highest quality available is preferred
- Should be rectangular, as near as possible to 3:1 aspect ratio
III. Names
- Use well-known names when possible, otherwise use unique descriptions with minimal words
IV. Years
- Use year of introduction for from fields. If exact year unknown, use an x for the last digit, i.e. 198x, 199x
- Use "present" in to field for current livery
